WorshipSaturday EveningFaithful One – overflowing with compassion They remind us that the world is full of mistrust and fear and hatred; They remind us of the consequences of mis-using our power; They remind us that what you have created is fragile and vulnerable. But these stories also tell us of a world full of people and communities
So move us again, Holy Spirit, – to respect, to solidarity, to commitment. Faithful One - God, Yahweh, Allah and many other names - We bring to you, the people of Iraq, Iran, Liberia, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, North Korea, Myanmar, Israel, the Occupied Territories; We bring to you people of different faiths and belief; men, women and children, rich but mostly poor, all beloved by you. Their future can be made or broken on the decisions of a few – leaders in their own country and often leaders far away from them. Tonight we pray again that those who see violence and oppression, economic and political bullying, as their only way to maintain power, we pray that they will cease from their arrogance. We pray again that no people, no adult, no child, will have to endure brutality or grinding poverty. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer, and let our prayers give courage to the people to stand firm for a just peace. Tonight we give thanks for the vigour and dedication of Aid agencies and campaigns for debt relief and trade justice, particularly remembering our own Commitment for Life programme. Until such time as they are no longer needed Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer, And let our prayers give courage to the people to stand firm for a just peace. Amen |
